A Rose PetalA tall man,
Wearing a long, black trench coat,
Stands some place that is very high,
Overlooking a large city,
Watching the early morning sunrise,
Or is it a sunset?
Is it a tall building or a rocky ledge?
In the distance, a large body of water;
He smiles inwardly,
As in his mind’s eye,
He sees a woman
Picking up a rose petal,
That has just washed up
On the rocky shore;
She holds it close to her heart,
As if she knows
Exactly from whom it has come;
He is on one side of the ocean;
She is on the other.
An old, black crow watches
From the top of a pole
And caws in sheer delight,
As he sees more roses
Floating gently
Across the oceans of time,
On electronic air waves;
Such is the nature of love,
Transcending all space and time;
The old crow knows,
A rose is a rose, is a rose.
Eternity’s Mirror
The night is very dark.
The winds of time, blow cool.
I sense your presence;
You are close to me,
Yet far away;
You stand behind me;
I see your face in the mirror;
It matches mine perfectly.
I smile; you smile back.
I shiver with excitement,
As your cold chest
Touches my back;
You are all wet!
You have a huge, soft towel
Draped over your shoulders;
You reach out;
Your strong arms
Enfold me.
You walk us forward, gently,
One step at a time;
Suddenly, you pull the towel off.
Without a word,
We dive head-first
Into the pure, green water,
Simultaneously, breaking the waves;
We play like young dolphins,
As free spirits,
Ever two, yet still one,
Reflected in the winds of time
And the waters of life,
Embraced by love and its purity,
Forever and a day;
Now you are gone,
A mere reflection of life,
In time’s passing mode,
Perceived in eternity’s mirror,
By lovers,
Again and again.
